THE HOME CHORE PROGRAM
Developed in 1986, the NewBridge Home Chore Program is a free Madison/Monona, WI initiative that matches volunteers with adults aged 60+ to assist with light housekeeping, outdoor tasks, and companionship. It helps low-income older adults remain independent in their homes by providing services like vacuuming, laundry, and snow shoveling for those who cannot do them alone.
Do I Qualify?
This service is free for Madison and Monona older adults if they meet the following requirements:
60 years of age or older.
Make less than 150% of the Federal Poverty level.
Liquid Assets do not exceed $46,000.
Unable to complete tasks themselves due to physical or mental capabilities and lack other supports systems.
Must be NewBridge Case Management client and complete an assessment yearly.
Wait times are often long and determined by a need based assessment and availability/capabilities of volunteers.
Cleanliness and Organization
Vacuuming, laundry, tidying, and decluttering. Our volunteers handle the everyday housekeeping tasks that keep your home safe and comfortable.
Yard Work
Raking leaves, mowing lawns, and seasonal yard upkeep on a regular schedule or for one-time special projects. Your yard, taken care of.
Snow Angels
Our Snow Angel volunteers clear driveways, walkways, and sidewalks all winter long, keeping you safe, mobile, and protected from dangerous falls.
Friendly Visits and Socialization
Over 42 million older adults feel socially disconnected. A monthly volunteer visit brings real human connection and makes a bigger difference than you might expect.
